Qatar issues statement on "humanitarian pause" and hostage agreement
Announcing what it dubbed "an agreement for a humanitarian pause," Qatar—which was a major mediator in the talks between Israel and Hamas—released a statement of its own.
The statement from Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the fighting respite will last four days, with the option of being extended longer. This was consistent with earlier announcements from both Hamas and the Israeli government.
It stated that an announcement about the pause's beginning would be made in a day.
What's in the deal: According to the announcement, in exchange for Palestinian women and children being imprisoned in Israeli prisons, 50 civilian women and children who are now jailed in Gaza will be released.
The number of Palestinians to be released was not specified in the statement, but it seemed to imply that it would rise the longer the cease-fire deal lasted.
Additionally, it stated that the delay will for "more relief aid, including fuel designated for humanitarian needs, and humanitarian convoys."
