Select Honda Accords and HR-Vs are being recalled due to a missing seat belt pretensioner component

Honda is recalling 2023-2024 Accord and HR-V vehicles owing to a missing front seat belt pretensioner item that might increase crash injuries.

Honda and the NHTSA issued notices earlier this week that pretensioners, which tighten seat belts upon impact, may be missing the rivet that secures the fast connector and wire plate. Regulators warned that crash passengers may not be appropriately restrained.

An assembly fault caused the problem, according to the NHTSA. Over 300,000 Accords and HR-Vs may be affected.

Honda had seven warranty claims as of Nov. 16, but no injuries or deaths were reported due to the faulty pretensioners, according to NHTSA documents.

For this recall, dealers will examine all autos and possibly replace the seat belt pretensioner assembly for free. Those who paid for these repairs themselves may be reimbursed.

Registered owners of impacted automobiles will get mail notification letters commencing Jan. 8, 2024. The representative said dealers should have replacement parts by the end of the month, but buyers can visit an authorized Honda dealer for an inspection now.
