Two-time PGA Tour winner Grayson Murray dies at 30
Two-time PGA Tour winner Grayson Murray passed away Saturday morning at age 30, a day after withdrawing from the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
“We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement Saturday.
"We will hold off on commenting until we learn further details, but our heart aches for his family, his friends and all who loved him during this very difficult time," GSE said in a statement.
Murray had openly discussed the challenges he faced during his golf career, including struggles with alcohol and anxiety. He had spent time in rehab, according to a PGA interview.
Despite these struggles, Murray achieved a significant comeback this year by winning the Sony Open, where he hit a wedge shot to 3 feet for a birdie on the final hole to get into a playoff, ultimately winning with a 40-foot putt. He had previously won the Barbasol Championship in 2017.
Ranked No. 58 in the world, Murray had recently tied for 43rd in the PGA Championship at Valhalla. He made the cut in his Masters debut, finishing 51st, and was set to compete in the U.S. Open next month at Pinehurst No. 2.
