Spencer Knight has been loaned to Charlotte by the Panthers, where his comeback story will continue
On Friday, the Florida Panthers loaned Spencer Knight to their AHL affiliate in Charlotte, continuing his comeback.
Knight has not played a meaningful game for Florida since Feb. 18. After months off hockey to focus on his mental health, the 22-year-old revealed he has obsessive-compulsive disorder.
In preseason, he had a 2.43 GAA and stopped 91.8% of shots.
Knight anticipated this entering camp, especially with Sergei Bobrovsky as the top goalie. Knight's move to Charlotte, which the Panthers don't consider a demotion, gives him more playing time.
Anthony Stolarz will back up Bobrovsky this season. Knight is expected to start regularly for Charlotte.
Knight is in his first year of a $13.5 million, three-year contract and is clearly important to Florida. Captain Aleksander Barkov said Knight improved in camp.
Knight went 9-8-3 with a 3.18 g-avg and.901 save percentage in 19 starts and 21 games last season. Over three seasons with Florida, he's 32-17-6.
