Xavi will continue as the head coach of Barcelona beyond the ongoing season
Barcelona has officially announced that Xavi will stay on as the head coach reversing his decision to leave at the end of this season. Club president Joan Laporta shared his desire for Xavi to continue which goes against Xavis statement in January about his plan to depart.
In a press conference Laporta reiterated his held wish for Xavi to remain in charge beyond this season. Xavi, who led Barcelona to win La Liga in his season as coach recently signed a two year contract extension that secures his position until at least June 2025.
“Yesterday, we were talking and Xavi told me about his excitement for the project and the confidence that he has in the team, as well as the ambition he has for making a project that has already won and that should keep winning,” said Laporta.
Laporta made it clear that Barcelona did not consider other candidates to replace Xavi given his track record as both a player with 767 appearances for the club and a coach, with Champions League titles and La Liga championships under his belt.
