Next 4-year EPL domestic TV rights sell for record $8.45B
The Premier League sold its domestic TV rights for the next four years for 6.7 billion pounds ($8.4 billion), calling it the largest sports media rights deal ever concluded in the United Kingdom.
The new contract, which runs from 2025-26 to 2028-29, confirms the league's position as the richest in soccer, with an annual amount of 1.675 billion pounds ($2.12 billion), which is roughly double the value of domestic rights in Germany, Spain, and Italy.
Sky Sports will air at least 215 matches per season, up to 100 more than it now does, while TNT Sports, formerly BT Sport, would air 52 games. Amazon Prime, which has 20 matches per season in the current cycle through 2024-25, apparently did not bid for any matches in the following cycle.
The present agreement is said to be worth 1.66 billion pounds ($2.10 billion) every season.
