Great tennis Chris Evert received a cancer diagnosis again

Chris Evert, a tennis legend and ESPN broadcaster, has received a second cancer diagnosis and will not cover the 2024 Australian Open.

“Since I was first diagnosed with cancer two years ago, I’ve been very open about my experience. I wanted to give all of you an update. My cancer is back,” Evert said in a statement on Friday.

Evert, who won 18 grand slam singles and three doubles wins, disclosed in January 2022 that she had stage 1 ovarian cancer. After her sixth and final chemotherapy session in May 2022, the former world No. 1 proclaimed she was done.

“I never wanted to hear this diagnosis, but I'm grateful it was caught early. This week, I had another robotic surgery after a PET CT scan. Medical professionals identified cancer cells in the pelvis. "All cells were removed, and I started chemotherapy again," Evert stated.

“I will not be able to join my colleagues at ESPN's Australian Open next month in Melbourne. I'll be ready for the rest of Grand Slam! I recommend knowing your family history and advocating for yourself. Prompt detection saves lives. Be thankful for your health this holiday.”

Evert's younger sister, former tennis star Jeanne Evert Dubin, died of ovarian cancer at 62 in 2020.

She remains an ESPN pundit and analyst since 2011. Evert has boys Colton, Nicholas, and Alexander.
