Powerball jackpot winner from California wins almost $1.7 billion
Powerball reported that a California ticket won the second-largest Powerball and US lottery prize on Wednesday night.
The winning numbers are 22, 24, 40, 52, 64, and Powerball 10. According to the California Lottery, Midway Market & Liquor in Frazier Park, California, 70 miles north of Los Angeles, sold the ticket for the estimated $1.7 billion jackpot.
By Wednesday night's drawing, ticket sales raised the grand prize. The state lottery cautioned that Powerball prizes in California are pari-mutuel, so the actual payout amount depends on ticket sales and number of winners and may not match Powerball's website awards.
Jackpot winners in some states can remain anonymous, but California law requires them to reveal their name, the retailer who sold the winning ticket, the date they won, and the amount of their winnings, including gross and net installment payments.
Wednesday's winner beat low odds to win the Powerball jackpot on its 36th drawing since July. Powerball stated the jackpot odds are 1 in 292.2 million. Powerball also announced that back-to-back cycles had produced billion-dollar grand prizes for the first time.
California has been lucky lately. In July, a single ticket won $1.08 billion in the Powerball jackpot. The greatest Powerball jackpot was also won in the state. A November 2022 ticket earned $2.04 billion, a record.
