Biden urges Congress to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines

After two shootings in Texas and Nevada in the last 24 hours, President Joe Biden offered his condolences to the victims' families and urged Republicans in Congress to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

The University of Nevada Las Vegas campus shooting on Wednesday left at least three victims, according to police.

Tuesday shootings in two Central Texas communities killed six.

Biden touted his actions as president but said Wednesday, "We cannot do more without Congress."

President said Republican lawmakers must work with Democrats in Congress to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, pass a national red flag law, enact universal background checks, require gun safety, and advance other commonsense gun violence prevention measures.

In Texas and Nevada, federal and local law enforcement are working together, Biden said.
