Shooting near VSU campus critically wounds officer, suspect at large

According to a Virginia State University news release, a suspect is at large after a shooting near campus early Sunday critically wounded a police officer.

Police Chief David Bragg said the campus is locked down Sunday as a precaution, according to the news release.

“The officer, whose identity is not being released at this time, was taken to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries,” the release read.

A VSU officer responding to an on-campus disturbance was shot at 1:34 a.m., according to Chesterfield County Police and the Virginia State Police.

“The suspect ran off campus before shots were fired, injuring the VSU officer,” the news release read. • “The suspect remains at large.”
