122 anglers were saved from an ice floe in a lake in northern Minnesota; no injuries were reported

No injuries were reported as 122 fishermen were successfully rescued from an ice floe that broke off from the main ice on a lake in northern Minnesota on Friday night.

The fishermen were left stranded when an ice floe on Upper Red Lake broke free from the main ice sheet approximately thirty feet off shore, according to the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office. They were unable to return to dry land. Just before 5 p.m. CT, the authorities were initially contacted.

Some bystanders tried to use a canoe to rescue some of the stranded people while they waited for emergency personnel. Four people were reportedly rescued from the water after falling in during the attempt, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office stated in a Facebook post that all four of the fishermen had returned to the mainland by 7:37 p.m. CT after the first four were saved at approximately 6:40 p.m. CT.
