NTSB seeks help finding Alaska Airlines airplane part that flew off midair as investigations continue
The missing piece of an Alaska Airlines airplane's fuselage that blasted off is being sought after by federal investigators as they attempt to determine what caused the terrifying midair incident that resulted in the nationwide grounding of specific Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft and several flight cancellations.
Jennifer Homendy, the chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, stated on Saturday that no passengers were seated immediately near to the area of the aircraft that blew off.
Homendy requested assistance from the public in identifying the aircraft's "plug door" and other parts that had fallen off during flight.
“We believe, from looking at radar data, that the door is around Barnes Road near I-217 in the Cedar Hills neighborhood. If you find that please, please contact local law enforcement,” Homendy said.
Cedar Hills is located slightly over 7 miles west of Portland in Washington County.
The NTSB information and "the possibility that the @AlaskaAir Flight 1282 door may have fallen in our area" are two things that the Washington County Sheriff's Office said on X on Sunday. We have not yet been contacted by the public about potential debris recovered, nor have we been asked to organize any specific searches."
