According to officials, a firefighter died and eleven others were injured when a Virginia home exploded
On Friday night, a residence in Sterling, Virginia, erupted in an explosion while fire crews were present inside, resulting in the tragic death of at least one firefighter and injuries to at least 11 others, including nine firefighters, according to officials.
Loudoun County Fire and Rescue reported that the injured firefighters and two civilians were taken to the hospital following the explosion, with injuries ranging from severe to less severe.
Firefighters had initially responded to the scene around 7:40 p.m. ET for an investigation and were conducting operations within the dwelling when the explosion occurred, as stated by James Williams, the department's assistant chief of operations.
The cause of the explosion remains unclear, and authorities are yet to determine if neighboring homes sustained any damage. Williams mentioned that the fire incident is currently under investigation.
