After nonprofit open call, MacKenzie Scott donates $640 million

Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, through her organization Yield Giving, alongside Lever for Change, declared a substantial donation of $640 million to 361 nonprofits, following an extensive call for applications. The announcement came on Tuesday.

Over 6,000 nonprofit entities vied for this funding opportunity. Scott ultimately exceeded the initial plan of granting 250 awards of $1 million each, as managed by Lever for Change.

“In light of the incredible work of these organizations, as judged by their peers and external panelists, the donor team decided to expand the awardee pool and the award amount,” according to Lever for Change.

Yield Giving, under Scott's stewardship, maintains a comprehensive record of the donations provided to various organizations and nonprofits.

In December of the previous year, Scott had revealed donations totaling $2.15 billion through Yield Giving.

Reflecting on 2022, Scott highlighted her team's contribution of over $3.8 billion to 465 organizations within a span of nine months. Among notable contributions, she allocated $436 million to Habitat for Humanity and $84.5 million to the Girl Scouts of the USA, marking the largest individual donation in the organization's history.
