Pennsylvania police said that prison escapee Danelo Cavalcante was apprehended following a two-week search

Danelo Cavalcante was apprehended on Wednesday, ending a two-week search for a killer who had escaped from a Pennsylvania jail, according to officials. At a press conference, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Lt. Col. George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police stated that Cavalcante was captured just after 8 a.m. by members of a tactical unit conducting the manhunt. There were no gunshots fired.

Around midnight, a home inside the perimeter reportedly heard a "burglar alarm" go off. When responding to the alarm, police did not see Cavalcante or anybody else at the home, but it was after one in the morning that they discovered the heat signal that ultimately led to his capture. The plane started following it at that point. The tactical team decided to create a new boundary around the area where the heat signal had appeared because the area was being hindered from continuing its journey by lightning storms. Wednesday morning saw the continuation of the manhunt.

According to Bivens, Cavalcante attempted to flee by slithering "through dense underbrush, taking his rifle with him." He claimed Cavalcante resisted arrest attempts and was eventually pulled down by a police dog and "forcefully taken into custody." According to Bivens, Cavalcante only suffered "a minor bite wound." There were no other wounds. The escapee was taken to an Avondale police station for questioning and will eventually be sent to a state prison.
