5 killed in home shooting near Seattle, teen in custody, authorities report
Three children were among the five people murdered in a state shooting in Washington on Monday, and a young suspect was arrested, according to authorities.
About 25 miles east of Seattle, in the Lake Alice Road neighborhood of Fall City, deputies were called to a shooting at a residence just before five in the morning, according to a statement from the King County Sheriff's Office.
Two adults and three children were slain, according to the sheriff's office. A minor suspect was detained. It was unclear whether the suspect and the victims had any link, according to the sheriff's office.
Officials believe the victims and the suspect are “likely members of the same family, but their exact relationships are part of the investigation,” Brandyn Hull, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.
First-degree or second-degree murder charges might be brought against the minor, according to the sheriff's office.
During a news conference on Monday, sheriff's office deputy and spokesperson Mike Mellis stated that he could only call the children who were killed "young teenagers."
“It does appear to be that this is a family incident, clearly a domestic violence incident involves not only a young man who’s now in significant trouble, it involves firearms. Young men and firearms,” Mellis told reporters Monday.
Mellis said the deaths were “perpetrated by firearm” and “there was no significant confrontation” with the suspect when he was arrested.
The suspect is expected to show up in court on Tuesday, according to the sheriff's office.
