A central Florida deputy was killed and two others injured when they were "ambushed" while responding to a disturbance Friday night, according to Lake County Sheriff Peyton Grinnell.

On Friday night, three deputies were shot at a home in Eustis, Florida.

“We went to a disturbance at one house - the initial call was for a disturbance - and then, while we were on that scene, somebody at that scene told the deputies they needed to go to the other house, that that’s where there was a problem happening,” Grinnell said at a news conference early Saturday.

When Lake County deputies got to the second house, the sheriff reported that there was "some commotion" going on inside and that the rear door had been kicked in.

“They were just met with a lot of gunfire,” Grinnell said. The first deputy who entered the house was injured and trapped inside while another deputy was able to get out.

The second deputy was hospitalized with a shoulder wound, but his condition was stable.

According to Grinnell, a third deputy sustained various injuries to his armpit, groin, and stomach and was having surgery. Grinnell did not immediately identify the police involved.

In response, several deputies organized a rescue squad to free the imprisoned deputy, but the gunshots drove them to leave. The sheriff stated they brought in a SWAT unit.

“It was a very violent scene,” the sheriff said. “The deputies went to that home to conduct a well-being check at the request of the complainant that was the original disturbance call.”

When SWAT arrived, the sheriff claimed that two of the house's occupants—whom he called suspects—were discovered dead. Unknown conditions led to the hospitalization of the third person. Grinnell reported that numerous weapons, including handguns and long guns, were discovered within the home.

The shooting is under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
