Five injured and one dead after a shooting outside an Indianapolis bar

A shooting broke out outside a bar early on Sunday morning, leaving one person dead and five others—including an off-duty Indianapolis Metro police officer—injured, according to the authorities.

Two off-duty At approximately 1:30 in the morning, there was a "disturbance in the parking lot" while Indianapolis Metro Police officers were on duty as security at a bar located at 9449 E. Washington St.

According to a news release from the police department, "at some point, there was an exchange of gunfire between the two officers and at least one suspect, resulting in one officer being shot."

According to the news release, other officers helped their colleague who was taken to a hospital in stable condition after first responders arrived on the scene.

There were four other victims of gunshot wounds. According to the police, the victims were a woman, 33 years old, and two men, 45 years old.

According to police, a second male victim appeared at Community East Hospital with what appeared to be a gunshot wound; he subsequently passed away.

According to the news release, one firearm was found by the police at the scene.
