President Biden criticizes 6-year-old Muslim boy's murder

An alleged hate crime in Chicago murdered a 6-year-old boy on Saturday. The boy and his mother, who was stabbed, were apparently targeted for being Muslims. The suspect is under federal hate crime investigation, and President Biden condemned the attack on Sunday.

"Jill and I were shocked and sickened to learn of the brutal murder of a 6-year-old child and the attempted murder of the child's mother in their home yesterday in Illinois," he said.

"The child's Palestinian Muslim family came to America seeking what we all seek — a refuge to live, learn, and pray in peace."

According to CBS Chicago, Joseph Czuba, 71, their landlord, reportedly attacked the mother and kid and has been charged with two hate crimes, one first-degree murder, one attempted murder, and one aggravated violence.

Authorities said Czuba attacked them with a knife and the mother retreated to the restroom and phoned 911. She was stabbed more than a dozen times and her son, Wadea Al-Fayoume, was stabbed 26 times, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office, CBS Chicago reports.

The strike occurred a week after Israel and Hamas, the Gaza Strip's terrorist group, began fighting.

The DOJ stated that the incident "cannot help but further raise the fears of Muslim, Arab, and Palestinian communities in our country with regard to hate-fueled violence," and that it is committed to protecting everyone.
