2 dead and 11 injuries in shootings in New Orleans
Two people were killed and 11 others were hospitalized in two shootings that erupted 45 minutes apart near a second line procession in New Orleans on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
“We had two different incidents. There were two shootings 45 minutes apart from one another,” New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said at a news conference Monday. “We are actively working this case. We do have leads, and we will find the perpetrators. They will be held accountable.”
New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick reported on Monday that three people were shot in the second incident and eleven in the first.
Despite some additional police resources at the event, gunfire erupted at about 3:40 p.m. “Apparently, a car was involved … and shots were fired into the crowd,” Kirkpatrick said at a news conference Sunday night.
According to Kirkpatrick, police "know two weapons were used by the ballistics that are left on the scene." Regarding the weaponry, no further details were given.
Attorney General Liz Murrill said on social media, “I’m saddened to learn about this senseless mass shooting in New Orleans this afternoon. I’m praying for the victims and their families. This kind of lawlessness will NOT be tolerated. I’m hopeful the perpetrators are caught soon and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
“We’re sure someone probably has video, film, something, and we would like them to call” New Orleans police or Crime Stoppers, Kirkpatrick urged.
