Active shooter reported on Florida State University campus, multiple people hospitalized

Officials say at least four people were hospitalized after an active shooter was reported on the Florida State University campus in Tallahassee on Thursday.
The school's emergency alert system sent a warning just after noon, asking students to take shelter after an alleged shooter was reported near the campus' Student Union area.
Florida State University (FSU) police are responding to a "active scene" on its Tallahassee campus and are working to "get it under control."
“An active shooter has been reported in the area of Student Union,” the university said in a post on X. “Police are on scene or on the way. Continue to seek shelter and await further instructions. Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures.”
Police responded to an active shooter complaint from the Student Union location approximately 12:01 p.m., according to FSU.
A spokeswoman informed WCTV that four patients were being treated at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. The degree of their injuries was not immediately apparent.
A message on the hospital’s site said it was “actively receiving and caring for patients” in the wake of the incident.
“At this time, details are still unfolding, and we do not yet have specific information to share,” the message read.
“However, we want to assure the community that our teams are fully mobilized and prepared to provide the highest level of care and support to all those affected.”
"We remain in close coordination with emergency responders and public safety officials. Out of respect for patient privacy and to ensure accurate information, we will provide updates as soon as they are available," Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare said in a statement.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement stated that it is "actively engaged in the incident on FSU's campus, and we will update the public with more information as soon as possible."
The FBI said that Jacksonville and Tallahassee resident agencies are on the scene and aiding local law enforcement partners.
The institution instructed students to remain in place, and courses and programs were canceled for the rest of the day.
