Supreme Court will rule on Trump immunity, delaying election subversion trial

Wednesday's Supreme Court decision on Donald Trump's immunity in special counsel Jack Smith's election subversion case added another explosive appeal from the former president and delayed his federal trial.

The court expedited and heard arguments the week of April 22.

The move sets the Republican presidential frontrunner up for another high-stakes date with the high court, which heard arguments earlier this month on whether Trump disqualified himself from running for a second term under the 14th Amendment's “insurrection ban.”

The Supreme Court arguments may occur while Trump is on trial in New York for falsifying business records to hide hush money payments before the 2016 election. (Trump denies culpability.)

The high court stayed a lower court verdict against Trump on Wednesday until it decides the case. As usual when allowing a case, the court issued a brief order without revealing the justices' votes.
