ISIS claimed responsibility for Moscow concert venue attack that killed at least 40

ISIS has taken credit for the attack on Friday at a well-known concert venue complex outside of Moscow, which resulted in over 100 injuries and at least 40 fatalities after attackers broke into the building brandishing firearms and setting off grenades.

In a brief statement released on Telegram on Friday by the ISIS-affiliated news agency Amaq, the terror group claimed responsibility for the attack. The claim was not substantiated by the group's evidence.

Video from the attack scene, the Crocus City Hall concert venue, shows the massive complex, which houses a shopping center and a music hall, on fire with smoke shooting into the sky. The armed people "opened fire with automatic weapons" and "threw a grenade or an incendiary bomb, which started a fire," according to state-run RIA Novosti. The news agency said that they subsequently "allegedly fled in a white Renault car."

"Unidentified people in camouflage broke into Crocus City Hall and started shooting before the start of the concert," the Russia Prosecutor General's Office said, as reported by TASS.

Firefighters evacuated about a hundred people from the building, according to TASS. The Main Directorate of the Russian Federation's Ministry of Emergency Situations reports that rescuers are still trying to free people from the roof.
