OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever to leave the company
After months of uncertainty, OpenAI's chief scientist Ilya Sutskever is officially departing from the company he co-founded.
“After almost a decade, I have made the decision to leave OpenAI,” Ilya Sutskever said in a social media post. “I am excited for what comes next — a project that is very personally meaningful to me about which I will share details in due time.”
Sutskever was reportedly one of the main proponents of the attempt to oust CEO Sam Altman last November. About a week before Thanksgiving, Sutskever, along with OpenAI's Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati, approached members of the company's former board of directors to voice their concerns about Altman's conduct.
Sutskever’s departure coincides with the announcement of OpenAI’s most advanced large language model to date. The GPT-4o LLM boasts enhanced capabilities in text, video, and audio comprehension, enabling more realistic and natural conversations with users.
Jakub Pachocki, previously the director of research at OpenAI, will take over Sutskever’s role, according to the company.
