"Game of Thrones" star Ian Gelder passed away at age 74

Ian Gelder, a British actor best known for playing Kevan Lannister in the television series "Game of Thrones," passed away at the age of 74, his partner and fellow actor Ben Daniels revealed on Tuesday.

“It is with huge huge sadness and a heavy heart broken into a million pieces that I’m leaving this post to announce the passing of my darling husband and life partner Ian Gelder,” Daniels wrote on Instagram.

Although Daniels had taken time off work to care for Gelder following his December bile duct cancer diagnosis, he said that "neither of us had any idea that it would all be so fast."

Daniels wrote, "He was the kindest, most generous spirited, and loving human being" in honor of his thirty-year partner.

In the wildly popular series, he portrayed the younger brother and dependable counselor of the formidable Lord Tywin Lannister, appearing in four of the eight seasons.

A seasoned stage actor, Gelder had portrayed important characters for the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), such as Antonio in "The Merchant of Venice" and the Duke of Clarence in "Richard III."
