The 2024 Oscars will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel
Jimmy Kimmel, the late-night host, is back to emcee the 96th Academy Awards ceremony. This is his fourth time doing so.
Prior to this, the host of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" hosted the telecasts in 2017, 2018, and 2023. The 2017 Oscars had the now-famous "La La Land" and "Moonlight" best picture mishap. Kimmel will now be seated beside such celebrities as Whoopi Goldberg and Jack Lemmon. Only Johnny Carson (five times), Billy Crystal (nine times), and Bob Hope (eleven times) have hosted more shows.
There was an increase in viewership for the 2023 Oscars, with an average audience of 18.8 million people overall—a 13% increase over the previous numbers. It exceeded the 2023 Emmys and Grammys by a margin of over twofold. With a 4.0 rating in the adults 18–49 key demo, the ceremony reached a three-year high in terms of total viewers and demo, rising 5% from 2020.
The Primetime Emmy Awards nominated last year's 95th event for outstanding variety special (live). For his talk series, Kimmel received a second nomination, raising his total for his career to 20. This was for his late-night show. January will see the release of the results.
On Sunday, March 10, 2024, the 96th Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theatre.
