Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Homicide star Andre Braugher died of lung cancer
Andre Braugher died of lung cancer, according to a spokesperson on Thursday.
The Emmy-winning actor, who appeared in the television programs "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Homicide: Life on the Street," passed away on Monday at the age of 61. His spokeswoman Jennifer Allen revealed the reason for his passing on Thursday, but his officials simply stated that he had experienced a brief illness.
For the most part, Braugher kept his personal life quiet, and many of his co-stars were shocked to learn of his passing. In 2014, he informed the New York Times that he had given up drinking and smoking years earlier.
Acting alongside Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman in the 1989 picture "Glory," the Chicago native Braugher made his big screen debut.
Eleven times Braugher received Emmy nominations, four of them for his comedic role as Captain Ray Holt on the eight-season Fox and NBC comedy "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," starring Andy Samberg.
