Félix Verdejo, a former boxer from Puerto Rico, was given a life sentence for killing his lover, who was pregnant

Following his conviction for the gruesome murder of his 27-year-old pregnant lover, former Puerto Rican boxer Félix Verdejo was given two life sentences on Friday.

After the family of Keishla Rodriguez, who was killed in April 2021, made heartfelt speeches, a federal judge sentenced Verdejo.

Verdejo was convicted in July of both causing the death of an unborn child and kidnapping that results in death. Plans to appeal the sentence were announced by his attorney on Friday.

Puerto Rico Police Commissioner Antonio López stated, "This sentence should serve as a lesson for others." Your perceived level of power, wealth, or notoriety is irrelevant. There will be consequences for breaking the law.

Verdejo started boxing professionally in 2012 after competing in the Olympics. With 17 knockouts and a 27-2 record, he concluded his career in the lightweight division.
