Part of the NFL's "Music City Miracle," Frank Wycheck, passed away at age 52
Frank Wycheck, a former NFL Pro Bowl tight end whose lateral started the "Music City Miracle," passed away on Saturday at the age of 52, according to a statement from his family.
“At this time, it appears Wycheck fell inside his Chattanooga, TN, home and hit his head on Saturday morning. The family reported that he was discovered unconscious that afternoon.
The renowned "Music City Miracle" occurred in one of the opening playoff games following the 1999 season, and Wycheck, who spent 11 NFL seasons with the Washington Commanders and Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans, was a part of it. The trick play that won the game was voted the fourth best play in league history in 2019.
With 505 career catches, Wycheck ranked fourth among all tight ends in NFL history when he retired in 2003. He was chosen for three straight Pro Bowls between 1998 and 2000.
“The Tennessee Titans mourn the loss of a beloved member of our Titans family, Frank Wycheck,” the Titans posted on X.
According to the Wycheck family's statement, they intend to carry out his desires by collaborating with “experts for on-going brain injury (TBI) and CTE research.”
“The Wycheck family appreciates the love and support they’ve received, but asks the public to please respect their privacy during this difficult time,” the statement concludes.
