Early Sunday morning, mayhem broke out at a Houston after-hours nightclub after a shooting injured six individuals, four of whom were in severe condition. The incident occurred inside a sports bar on Hillcroft Avenue, triggering an immediate reaction from law enforcement personnel.

The incident occurred outside Latinas Sports Bar in a strip mall, according to Houston Police Department Assistant Chief James Skelton, who spoke at a press conference in front of the restaurant, which was roped off by police tape.

Officers and firemen from the Houston Fire Department arrived and discovered three casualties, all adult men with gunshot wounds, who were transported to area hospitals, Skelton said.

"The establishment behind me is a true after-hours club, something we are trying to target in this city," Skelton said.

He said a police dispatcher received a 911 call at about 3 a.m. local time of multiple people shot at the southwest Houston bar.

“We do have some video, which is good,” Skelton said.  Police were searching for a black Toyota Camry or Corolla with two suspects inside.

"We know this is more of an isolated attack," according to him.  All of the casualties were men, he claimed, and the gunfire appeared to have come from outside the pub. He said three other victims showed up at hospitals in private vehicles.

"Currently, we have four individuals who are critical," Skelton added, adding that all of the victims were in surgery.

Skelton said the shooting happened during a crackdown on illegal clubs that are open after hours. This was done because there have been several shootings at these kinds of places in the city.

"Establishments like this that harbor within our city can contribute to crime," Skelton said. "We are targeting these locations and we're going to shut them down."

Skelton stated that detectives are scrutinizing Latinas Sports Bar's licenses and permissions.

"They may have a license of some type. I don't have that information," Skelton said. "However, they are serving alcohol after 2 o'clock in the morning, which is against the law."

Skelton said no arrests have been made, and the motivation for the shooting is being investigated by the police department's major assaults investigators.

An hour later, at another club on the opposite side of town, the tale was similar. Following a disagreement, one guy was shot and killed as he exited a bar on the Gulf Feedway near Bellfort.

"I don't know specifics of the club at this time, how it operates -- the hours -- but happened at 3:56. So, I think it's an after-hours club, " Detective. Sharp with HPD said.
