Musk's Starlink signs a $90 million deal to provide free internet access in Mexico

A Mexican government official said on Wednesday that Elon Musk's satellite internet company, Starlink, has signed a 1.56 billion peso ($89.80 million) contract to provide free internet in Mexico through the end of 2026.

Carlos Emiliano Calderon, coordinator of Mexico's digital strategy, stated at a routine government morning press conference that Musk's company received the contract because it offered the cheapest costs in the public tender offer.

Calderon continued, "Nine businesses, including Starlink, have signed contracts with Mexico for free internet."

Between 887.5 million and 1.8 billion pesos are the estimated value of the contract to cooperate with Mexico's Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE).
