Robert Downey Jr. will not return as Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Marvel fans shouldn't be holding their breath waiting for Robert Downey Jr. to return to the superhero character Iron Man/Tony Stark.

Despite rumors to the contrary, Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige stated in an interview with Vanity Fair that there are no intentions to revive the character following Downey Jr.'s final appearance in 2019's "Avengers: Endgame."

“We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again,” Feige said. “We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”

Co-director Joe Russo of "Endgame" claims that Downey Jr. was reluctant to even reshoot.

“We’d already said tearful goodbyes on the last day of shooting. Everybody had moved on emotionally,” Russo told publication. “We promised him it would be the last time we made him do it — ever.”

The co-director of "Endgame," his brother Anthony Russo, said, "That was a difficult thing for him to do, to come back and pick up that line."

According to Anthony Russo, "when Downey Jr. did come back, we were shooting on a stage right opposite where he auditioned for Tony Stark." "Therefore, he was shot only a few hundred feet from the original audition where he was cast as Tony Stark."
