Spain secured a record fourth European Championship title on Sunday, thanks to Mikel Oyarzabal’s 86th-minute goal, which sealed a 2-1 victory over England. This extends England's decades-long wait for a major trophy.

Nico Williams, one of Spain’s standout performers in the tournament, gave La Roja the lead early in the second half with a well-placed shot into the bottom corner, assisted by the newly turned 17-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal.

England leveled the score midway through the second half with a brilliantly executed left-footed strike from Cole Palmer from outside the box at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.

However, with less than five minutes remaining in regulation time, Spain regained the lead when Mikel Oyarzabal scored from a precise pass by Marc Cucurella, securing a memorable victory and an outstanding tournament for La Roja.

Spain won all seven matches in Euro 2024, culminating in one of the most dominant performances in international tournament history.

"I couldn't be happier. To see the fans, to see the players," Spain manager Luis de la Fuente said. "For me, they are the best in the world and today I confirm that definition."

This victory marks Spain’s fourth Euro title, having previously won in 1964, 2008, and 2012. For England, it is another heartbreaking finish, following their defeat by Italy on penalties in the Euro 2020 final.

England has now finished as runners-up in consecutive European Championships and has not won a major international tournament since the 1966 World Cup.
