Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has been treated for prostate cancer

As per a statement released by Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is receiving treatment for prostate cancer. He was admitted to the hospital on New Year's Day due to problems. The treatment is ongoing.

The malignancy was found in early December, according to the statement. To address the cancer, he had a prostatectomy, a "minimally invasive surgical procedure," on December 22.

“He was under general anesthesia during this procedure. Secretary Austin recovered uneventfully from his surgery and returned home the next morning. His prostate cancer was detected early, and his prognosis is excellent,” the statement read.

Due to complications, including "nausea with severe abdominal, hip, and leg pain," Austin was readmitted to the hospital on January 1. The declaration stated that a urinary tract infection was discovered in him.

He was brought to Walter Reed on January 1 and had been hospitalized for days without informing the public, which raised serious problems for the Pentagon on Friday. Subsequently, it was revealed that only three days after Austin's hospitalization did President Joe Biden, top national security officials, and even Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, who had taken over for Austin, know about the defense secretary's admission.
