Lloyd Austin, the defense secretary, leaves the hospital and returns to work
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday after being admitted to the critical care unit at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center earlier this week due to a bladder problem.
According to a news release from the Defense Department, Austin left the hospital around 3:30 p.m. ET after consultation with medical staff. He resumed his full responsibilities by 5 p.m. and will continue his duties remotely while he recuperates, as stated by the Pentagon.
Austin is anticipated to return to his in-person duties later this week.
