Netanyahu's government has voted to close the Al Jazeera office in Israel

Israels government has decided to shut down the Al Jazeera networks offices, in the country with effect.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a post on X: “The government headed by me unanimously decided: the incitement channel Al Jazeera will be closed in Israel.”

According to Ofir Gendelman, the ministers spokesperson for the world this decision will be swiftly implemented.

In a post on X, Gendelman said that the network’s “broadcast equipment will be confiscated, the channel’s correspondents will be prevented from working, the channel will be removed from cable and satellite television companies, and Al Jazeera’s websites will be blocked on the Internet.”

Despite its reporting from Gaza during conflicts Al Jazeera has had strained relations with Israel. In April Israeli lawmakers passed a law allowing authorities to close news outlets seen as threats to security. Some officials have accused Al Jazeera of being a mouthpiece for Hamas.

Al Jazeera has responded by stating that Israels action violates peoples right, to information access.
