Author of "Shopaholic," Sophie Kinsella, discloses her diagnosis of brain cancer
Sophie Kinsella, renowned for her "Shopaholic" book series, shared on Wednesday via Instagram that she is undergoing treatment for brain cancer.
In her post, she expressed, “I’ve been wanting to update you on my health for a while now, but I needed the strength to do so.” She revealed that in late 2022, she was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a severe type of brain cancer. She chose to keep this private initially to ensure her children could process the news in privacy and adjust to the changes in their lives.
Currently residing in the United Kingdom with her family, Kinsella mentioned she's being cared for by a proficient medical team at a London hospital. She underwent successful surgery followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy, which is still ongoing.
She shared, “At the moment all is stable and I am feeling generally very well, though I get very tired and my memory is even worse than it was before,”
Known also by her pen name, Madeleine Wickham, Kinsella's books have sold over 45 million copies worldwide, translated into more than 40 languages across 60 countries. Her character Becky Bloomwood from the "Shopaholic" book was brought to life by Australian actress Isla Fisher in the 2009 film adaptation "Confessions of a Shopaholic."
