USGS reports Northeast cities shaken by 4.8 magnitude earthquake
According to information provided by the US Geological Survey, a preliminary earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 shook areas of New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.
The epicenter was situated just northeast of Lebanon, New Jersey, occurring at 10:23 a.m. ET, less than 50 miles west of New York City.
Initial data from the USGS suggests that the mild shaking would likely not result in any significant damage. Initially reported as a 4.8 magnitude quake, the magnitude was revised to 4.7 before being adjusted back to 4.8.
