A gunshot occurred late Saturday on the campus of Norfolk State University in Virginia, injuring at least two individuals, police said.

The incident took at around 11:30 p.m. on a roadway that passes through the university campus, according to the Norfolk Police Department. One guy was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, while the other had non-life-threatening injuries.

"Norfolk police are continuing to investigate a shooting in the 2200 block of Presidential Parkway," the Norfolk Police Department said in a statement.

Both Norfolk Police and the Norfolk State institution Police Department (NSUPD) assessed that there is no immediate threat to the school, although NSUPD enhanced patrols surrounding the institution.

Police stated the shooting was still under investigation and did not release any other information.

It is unknown whether any students were engaged in the shooting, or whether a suspect has been found. A spokeswoman from Norfolk State University did not immediately reply to a request for further information.

The shooting occurred just days after a shooting at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. A 20-year-old guy is suspected of opening fire on the FSU student union, killing two individuals and wounding many more.
