Prisoner from Jefferson County breaks free

A 42-year-old Jefferson County Detention Facility inmate escaped late Friday afternoon by climbing a fence.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says several police agencies are searching for Jeremy Buchanan.

"Buchanan was working in the kitchen when he exited the kitchen, entered a supply room, left the building through a delivery door, and escaped over a fence where deliveries are received," the sheriff's office said.

Buchanan was jailed on June 2. He lived in Denver while homeless. He was charged with felony auto theft, three protection order violations, drug possession, and several unsuccessful drug and traffic court appearances.
