2 teenagers charged in Kansas City Chiefs parade shooting, court says

Two teenagers have been formally accused in relation to the fatal shooting incident that occurred at the conclusion of the parade commemorating the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl triumph. According to a statement from Jackson County family court released on Friday, the suspects, whose identities remain undisclosed, are currently held on charges related to firearms possession and resisting arrest.

The statement further indicated that "further charges are anticipated as the investigation conducted by the Kansas City Police Department progresses." The authorities have not disclosed the ages of the apprehended juveniles.

As per the statement, the suspects were charged by the Office of the Juvenile Officer on Thursday and are presently detained at a juvenile detention facility. Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker clarified that while her office does not directly oversee juvenile officers, representatives from her office are expected to attend the suspects' forthcoming hearings, which are not accessible to the public.

Investigators believe that a dispute among several individuals precipitated the tumultuous events that unfolded Wednesday afternoon during the Chiefs' celebration outside Union Station, as relayed by Graves to reporters on Thursday. According to Graves, law enforcement has not established any links to terrorism or domestic violent extremism.

In the shooting, Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a 43-year-old mother of two and a local radio DJ, lost her life. Police reported that 22 other individuals sustained injuries, with ages ranging from 8 to 47 years old.
